“The right amount of technology.”
The Technology Age
Technology has become a necessary part of modern life. It has taken over the way we communicate, the way we work, and the way we teach. There has been a fundamental shift in the way students learn and interact. Teachers now have access to laptops, tablets, and interactive whiteboards, which allow them to create interesting and engaging lessons. Students can use educational apps and online resources to have interactive and personalized learning experiences that cater to their individual needs.
Athletic Performance and Technology
This wave of change is taking place in athletics as well. Technology including Apple Watch, Whoop, and Strava have become main stream and been shown to be beneficial. But in some settings these devices and apps have failed to make an impact.
In team sports and group performance training, athletes are tasked with moving through a workout quickly in a limited space and with brief coaching interactions. Each athlete likely has different levels of experience or expected outcomes. That is a unique environment that many technology solutions fail to operate in. Take wearables as an example, would a cross fit gym that spent $5,000 to $10,000 on equipment adopt a solution that required all of their clients to purchase a $400 watch? How about a solution that disrupts the flow of the workout? Unlikely.
Finding the Balance
Our customer, Walsh Jesuit High School, has been using Tully Tracking in their athletic performance since 2022 and their Director of Strength & Conditioning described Tully as the “right amount of technology for this setting”.
We intentionally designed Tully to not be in the way, encourage healthy competition, and be inclusive of everyone. By simplifying the technology and finding the right balance, these environments can take advantage of the technology age.
